Oslo tram system

48 million passengers used the Oslo tram system in 2012. In 2013, the Oslo tram system consists of 72 trams on 6 lines with a total of 99 stops. The tram is a familiar part of Oslo’s cityscape, but it also causes noise and vibrations to its surroundings. The tram is an environmentally friendly company and the company was environmentally certified in 2007. Its strategic goal is to become one of Europe’s best cities for trams. Mapping noise emissions to the environment is therefore a key concern for the Oslo tram system.

Brekke & Strand Akustikk has conducted annual surveys of noise and vibration at fixed measurement points as part of the Oslo tram system’s measurement programme for noise. We helped to develop the measurement programme in 2007 and since then we have performed all the measurements and reporting. Noise and vibrations are measured at each measurement point. We also record the speed and type of vehicle and the carriage numbers. We measure track corrugation after the measurements. Brekke & Strand Akustikk then conducted analyses of the measurement results, including statistical analyses of the measurement results for noise and vibrations, which were then compared with other data such as track types, track corrugation, the dates for the latest rail grinding, etc.
